Microneedling: The BEST Needle Size For Hair Regrowth (2024 Update)
For the first time, researchers have published a study answering a key unanswered question on microneedling: what’s the best needle length for hair regrowth? 0.25mm? 2.5mm? Even bigger?
The answer is not what you might expect, and this video might change your approach to microneedling entirely.
Microneedling is a therapy where people use medical-grade needles to create micro-punctures in their scalp skin. Microneedling probably supports hair growth in a number of ways: first, the micro-punctures can enhance the penetration and activation of other topicals, like minoxidil. And secondly, the micro-wounds also activate growth factors that might encourage positive tissue remodeling and hair reg...

#1 Overlooked Factor When Fighting Hair Loss

To get the best hair growth outcomes, you have to target your specific causes of hair loss. If you fail to do this correctly, you might end up wasting years of time, money, and hair pursuing hair loss treatments that have nothing to do with your hair loss causes. In...
What Actually Causes Hair Loss?

When it comes to the causes of hair loss, research paints a nuanced picture. Consider the following: Scientific consensus is that the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) causes androgenic alopecia (AGA). So then how come AGA also occurs in children with little-to-no DHT... or women with complete androgen insensitivity syndrome? Scientific consensus is that AGA is genetic. So then how come four st...

Balding Speeds Vary, So Don't Make This Mistake

On average, people with androgenic alopecia lose 5% hair volume per year. But that "5%" is just the average of a bell curve. It might not apply to you. On one side, people can barely lose 1% hair volume per year. On the other side, that number can be as high as 20-30% hair loss every year. That's why some people can go bald over 40 years, while others can lose most of their hair in less than a ...

    Does extended use of microneedling make the epidermis or dermis thicker, thereby paradoxically leading to less penetration?

  • @davidaubuchon
    @davidaubuchon Час назад

    Perhaps less pain means people spend a long time letting the dermapen run, thereby creating more punctures.

    I've just started using a dermastamp to microneedle my scalp and I've worked my way up from 0.5mm to 1.0mm without any bleeding, just very slight redness that goes away quickly. Should I continue to work my way up to 1.5mm so long as there's no bleeding? Or should I stay under 1.0mm? Would like to keep it to a once a week routine for convenience though.

    Your video keeps showing the cheap bad purple microneedle roller. Those ones are like hundreds of little knives not needles, increasing the chance of skin damage. Use the ones with a green plastic roller. The plastic is clear green colour, has lass needles around 192, not the purple 540 ones. You can also see the needles are round not square. They're a little bit more expensive but not by much. I've tried both and the green ones definitely work better. They hurt less and penetrate to the correct depth. Great info though! Appreciate your research 😃

Every couple of years I check for advances, but it's always the same thing, reversing 100% hair loss is impossible and I'm sick of marketeers praying on people's insecurities. So my advice is try the minoxidil and microneedling if it works it works if it doesn't fuck it being bold ain't that bad

    Hey Rob, I really appreciate how passionate you are in your research. Do you have any provisional recommendations or suggestions for microneedling the face to help fix a patchy beard? Ive got a few weak spots on each side that drive me nuts. I've been derma stamping (0.5 mm) my beard region once every 5 days, with a thin layer of castor/peppermint oil daily. I cannot use monoxidil due to strong sensitivity reasons. It's only been a month so far so not much to report. Thank you and have a great day.

    :-/ meh... I get it, nobody is willing to put other peoples' scalps at risk.. but 'll tell you: I've been microneedling & minoxidil (5%) for 4 years now. Best configuration among the various ones I tried is: *2X microneedling with a 1,5 mm dermaroller daily* with SLIGHT pressure. Not only that: just DRAW the roller (don't go "back and forth" or it'll tangle your hair) and pass several times at different angles, pushing *slightly* ; it should NOT bleed (ok pinpoint bleeding, but it attests you've gone too deep). Ok to push with different pressures in different areas. As the video says, the dermis is at different depths in different areas. It also should not hurt that much. 2X daily means 2X daily, but it's ok if you skip every 4th of 5th application (might in fact be beneficial for better healing). *IMPORTANT:* use the roller ALWAYS on a scalp that's still WET WITH MINOXIDIL. YES, that means mere *seconds* after the application of the topical. Yes, it'll _"go systemic"_ (100 picograms perhaps, afraid of that? how about _oral minoxidil_ then?) but the penetration and activation of the minoxidil is OPTIMAL that way. I got results like from Norwood scale 5/6 to Norwood 2 or 2/3.

    If you are a male and your hair loss is caused by DHT, than don't waste your time with microneedling alone, it probably wont help. It might help only in case if you are using it in combination with topical minoxidil. I have been microneedling alone for over a year and it didn't help at all, actually after 6 months my hair started thining more than before. Microneedling might not be the cause but it didn't help either. Waste of time.

      @@Buches-h6s The best thing is to ask a professional. You must first find what is causing your hair loss in the first place. It could more than one factor, like stress, bad nutrition, genetics etc. In most balding men the main reason behind hair loss is DHT. There are medication like finasteride which block DHT but this drug can have really bad side effects.

    I don't understand why you recommend 1mm-1.25mm for Dermarollers. Even if we don't get the full depth with those devices, it's hard to imagine the "depth loss" is more than 30%. I started micro needling just last week and went for a 0.75mm roller. It seems to me like I picked a good length.

    • @mastermind_00
      @mastermind_00 День назад

      He is referring to a study which concluded that only about 50-70 % of the derma roller needle length reaches into your scalp. You can see it in his old Microneedling Video from 2021.

    • @Cheese-0x
      @Cheese-0x 19 часов назад

      @@mastermind_00 I don't know about the specific study, but I think we should differentiate between someone who just randomly buys a device on Amazon without looking into the topic deeply and someone who is actually informed and watches videos like this. With casual application I can see why it would only give you 50% depth, but once someone knows that it's important to press down while using the device, I don't see why we can't assume 70-95% penetration depth. This is especially true for the shorter length rollers where pain won't be too much of a hindrance.
